Charles Heton

In the Name of God Amen I Charles Heton of Buntingford in the Parish of Layston in the County of Hertford Clerk being [frail] in Body but of Sound and Perfect Mind and Memory do make and ordain my last Will and Testament as to my Temporal Estates as followeth that is to say first I give and bequeath unto my Friend Hugh Parnell of Kelshall in the said County of Hertford Clerk the Sum of Fifty Pounds and I give unto my Friend Richard Cordery of Buckland in the said County of Hertford Clerk the like Sum of Fifty Pounds and I give unto my Kinsman George Nicholls of Walden in the County of Essex the Sum of Fifty Pounds and I give unto his three Brothers my Kinsmen William Nicholls James Nichols and John Nicholls the Several Sums of Ten Pounds a peice to be paid unto each

of them all which said Legacys I give to be paid within Six Months after my decease and I give unto the Poor People living in and about Buntingford the Sume of Twenty Pounds to be distributed unto them at the discretion of my Executrix affornamed within one Month after my decease and I give unto my Kinswoman Ann Hall ^all those my Freehold Lands containing by Estimation three acres be the same more or less lying also being in a Com[m]on Field called Snails Mead Field and also all those my Freehold Lands containing by Estimation three Acres be the same more or less lying and being in a Com[m]on Field called Mill Field in the Several Parishes of Layston aforesaid and Aspeden in the said County of Hertford To hold to her my said Kinswoman Ann Hall Widow now living with me at Buntingford aforesaid and to her Heirs and Assigns forever charged with the payment of the Sume of forty Shillings a yeare which I give to be yearly issuing and Paid by and out of the said Six acres of Land to be laid out and expended in the Repairing and keeping up the Chappel at Buntingford aforesaid forever to be accounted from Michaelmas Day next after my decease and upon any refusal or neglect of laying out and expending such Sums of Forty Shillings yearly and every year to the Purpose aforesaid then I do hereby give such Power and Authority unto the Vicar or Vicars of the Parish of Layston aforesaid for the time being to enter into all or any part of the said Six acres of Freehold Lands and the same to hold and enjoy and the Rents Issues and Profits thereof to receive and take to be applyed to the Purpose aforesaid by such Vicar or Vicars until all arrears thereof shall be duly Paid and discharge[ed] together with all Charges accrewing for non Payment thereof and I give and bequeath unto my said Kinswoman Ann Hall all and Singular other my freehold and Copyhold Messuages Tenements Lands Grounds and Hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever with their and every of their Appurtenances To hold to her my said Kinsman Ann Hall and to her Heirs and assigns forever and I further give all and every the rest residue and remainder of my ready Moneys Goods Chattels Personal Estates and Effects whatsoever unto the said Ann Hall forever and I do appoint her my said Kinswoman Ann Hall full and Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of March in the Seven and Twentieth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign King George the Second and in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred Fifty and Four Charles Heton Signed Sealed Published and declared by the said Charles Heton the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the Presence of us who Subscribed our Names as Witnesses in his Presence and at his Request Geo: Steer & Miles Taylor Jno Bright

Fifty four before the Worshipful Arthur Collier Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Honourable Sir George Lee Knight Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Ann Hall Widow the Sole Executrix named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and Singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the deceased being first Sworn duly to Administer / Exo
