Will of Elizabeth Crouch Cowell

This is the last Will and Testament of me Elizabeth Crouch Cowell of Bygrave in the county of Hertford Widow that is to say I give and devise all my messuages cottages lands tenements hereditaments and real estate of what soever tenure of which I have any power of disposal and whether vested in my in my own right or upon any trust whatsoever unto my two Daughters Sarah Cowell and Anne Cowell their heirs and assigns the share of either of them therein upon marriage to devolve upon the other of them as if by survivorship for the better execution of any trust relating to the same

And subject to and after payment of my debts funeral and testamentary expenses I give and bequeath all and every my monies and securities for money household furniture plate linen and china wearing apparel jewels and trinkets and all other my personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever unto and to be as equally divided as may be or according to the nature of such personal estate respectively to be held and enjoyed between and by all my unmarried Daughters for their use and benefit as joint tenants whilst they continue sole my mind and will being that upon the marriage of any of them the share or shares right and interest of her or them so marrying shall devolve upon and accrue to and amongst the others or only other of them remaining unmarried as if by survivorship amongst them upon their respective deaths to the intent and purpose that the whole of such personal estate shall centre in any one of my said Daughters continuing sole for her use and benefit for her life and upon her decease to go according to the statute of Distributions as though I had died intestate

And I nominate and appoint my two Daughters Sarah Cowell and Anne Cowell Executrixes of this my will And in case of the marriage or death of either of them I appoint my two eldest unmarried Daughters for the time being Executrixes hereof In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of October one thousand eight hundred and thirty two

I Elizabeth Crouch Cowell late of Bygrave in the County of Herford but now of Ramsgate in the County of Kent Widow do hereby by way of Codicil to my will and for the satisfaction & guidance Daughters Sarah & Anne Cowell whom I have named Executrixes thereof declare and acknowledge that the several sums of stock now standing in my name in Three p cent Reduced Annuities and three pounds ten shillings p cent Reduced Annuities and also the several sums now due on mortgages effected in my name or for securing monies to me upon property at St Peters in the Isle of Thanet and at Ramsgate aforesaid and all shares in the Thanet Gas Company Ramsgate Water Works Deal Water Works Bonds or Mortgages from the Commissioners of the River Ivel in Bedfordshire the Ramsgate pavement Commissioners & the Commissioners or Trustees of the Margate Pier (subject only to my claim of a certain sum amounting to less than five hundred pounds sterling invested from time to time in one of the aforesaid Government stocks) are the proper monies estate and effects or property of my five younger and unmarried Daughters Sarah Cowell Anne Cowell Elizabeth Cowell Emma Cowell and Mary Ann Cowell as tenants in common being the unpaid or untransferred part of the residuary personal estate of my late husband John Cowell Esq deceased and still held by me or in my name upon the trusts of his will

And I hereby confirm my will bearing date the fourth day of October 1832 In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand this fourth day of October 1843

Proved at London with a Codicil the 20th Nov 1846 before the
Judge by the Oaths of Sarah Cowell and Anne Cowell Spinsters the
Daughters the Executrixes to whom Admon was granted having been
first sworn by Commission only to administer
