John by Divine Providence Archbishop of Canterbury primate of all England and Metropolitan Do by these presents make known unto all Men That on the Eighth day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Forty two at London before the Worshipful Howard Kiblaston Doctor of Laws Surrogate of the Right Worshipful John Bettersworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or commissary of our prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted The last Will and Testament of Catersby Freman late of Hemmells in the County of Hertford Esquire deceased (hereunto annexed) was proved approved and registered the said deceased having whilst living and at the time of his death Goods Chattels or Credits in divers Processes or Jurisdictions by reason whereof the proving and registering the said will and the granting administration of all and singular the said Goods Chattels and credits and also the auditing allowing and final discharging the accompt thereof are real known to appertain only and wholly to us and not to any inferior Judge And that administration of all and singular the Goods Chattels and credits of the said deceased and any way concerning his will was Granted to the Rev Ralph Freman Doctor in Divinity the sole Executor named in the said will being first sworn will and faithfully to administer the same and to make a true and perfect Inventory of all and Singular the said Goods Chattels and Credits and to exhibit the same into the Registry of our Prerogative Court of Canterbury on or before the last day of November next ensuing and also to render a just and true accompt thereof given at the time and place above written and in the sixth year of our translation

Main will

After I have Resign’d my soul into the hand of its Creator whom out of his unbounded goodness I pray he will have Mercy of and my Body to be decently & very privately Buried After All my ffuneral charges and Debts are paid I Give and Bequeath these Legacys

Item to my Good Sister Catherina ffreman the sum of fifty pounds to be laid out in whatsoever she likes Best

Item to Mrs Mary Tenisserade Relict of the Rev’d Mr Tenisserade of Bygrave the sum of one hundred pounds

Item to Elizabeth Cork If with me at the time of my death the sum of two hundred pounds

All the rest and Residue of my money goods and Chattel and whatsoever I shall dye possesed of as well as what shall fall to me after my decease I Give and Bequeath to my well Beloved Brother the Rev’d Ralph ffreman of All Souls Coll whom I do also Appoint the sole Executo of this my last Will and Testament made the second of November one thousand seven hundred and forty one

Sigd & Seald by me Ca Freman Tho’ it is not witnessed and as not drawn up by a Lawyer so liable to Mistakes I hope my Relations will have more honour and Justice to make any dispute about it./.

8th May 1742 Appeared Personally William Freman of Aspeden in the County of Hertford Esq and John Cottle of the parish of St Dunstan in the west London Gent and by virtue of their corporal oaths deposed That the Knew and were well acquainted with Catesby ffreman of Hemmels in
the County of Herford Esq’r lately deceased he the said William ffreman Esq’r being his Brother and he the said John Cottle having known him for upwards of Ten years before and to the time ^of^ his death which
happend on about the twenty ninth day of April last with which tyme they have often see him write and thereby became well acquainted with his manner and character of handwriting and have ^??^ now seen and perused the paper writeing hereunto Annexed Marked (A) beginning thus (After I have Resigned my soul) and ending thus (Made the second of November one thousand seven hundred and forty one) and thus subscribed signd and sealed by me C Freman) the said Deponents did severally swear that they verily believe the same and the whole series thereof to be totally wrote by and with the proper hand of the said Catesby Freman deceased./.

Wm Freman: John Cottle: The said William Freman Esq’r and John Cottle were sworn to the truth of the premisses before me E Kinaston Surr present Rie’d Wotten(?) Notary Publick./
