In the name of God Amen I Agnes Forester of Hamels in the parish of Braughing in the County of Hertford being at present of sound and perfect Mind and Memory Do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament as follows that is to say

I give to the Reverend Doctor Chauncy and unto Ann his wife ffive pounds a peice and to Butler Chauncy Esq’r Ten pounds To Penelopie Leonora Cheshyre the sum of Twenty pounds and to the poor of the parish of Cottered Ten pounds and to the poor of the Parish where I Dye ffive pounds and

I give all the rest and Remainder of my Money Goods and Effects whatsoever equally between my Sons William Pulter and Richard and my Daughter Agnes ffreeman and

I hereby nominate and appoint my said Sons and Daughter aforesaid Joint Executors and residuary Legatees of this my last Will and Testament In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Twenty first day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand & seven hundred and ffifty nine

Agnes Forester Signed Sealed published and Declared by the above named Agnes fforester the Testatrix as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who afterwards in here presence and in the presence of each other have put our names as Witnesses thereunto Sarah Green - J Green Junr

I give to my Sister Harvey the Rev Dr ffreeman and my Daughter fforester each of them a Mourning Ring Mrs Penelope fforester a Mourning

I give to my son William the Clock in my Room

I give to Sarah ffranklyn the Sum of Ten pounds and my apparel and my Watch

I give among the Servants at Hamels Ten pounds

If Mary Waller(?) is my Servant at my Death I give her ffive pounds

I give my Daughter ffreman one Ring and to Miss Mary Moore the other my Daughter to choose Agnes Forester


Which day appeared personally the Reverend Angel Chauncy Doctor in Divinity of the Parish of St Andrew Undershaft London and Ann Chauncy Wife of the said Rev’d Angel Chauncy and being Sworn on the Holy Evangelists to Depose the truth made Oath as follows that they knew and were well acquainted with Agnes fforester late of Hamels in the Parish of Braughing in the County of Hertford Widow deceased for many years before and to the time of her Death and also with her manner and Character of hand writing having often see her write and subscribe her name and having now viewed and carefully perused the paper writing hereunto annexed purporting to be and contain a Codicil or Addition to the last Will and Testament of the said deceased beginning thus “I give to my Sister Harvey the Rev’d Dr ffreman and my Daughter fforester each of them a mourning Ring” ending thus “I give my Daughter ffreman one Ring and to Miss Mary Moore the other my Daughter to choose” and thus subscribed “Agnes Forester” they those Deponents say that they verily and in their consciences believe the name Agnes fforester set and Subscribed at the foot or bottom of the said Codicil to be of the proper hand writing and subscription of the said dec’ed(?) Angel Chauncy – Anne Chauncy Same Day the said Rev’d Doctor Chauncy and Ann Chauncy were duly sworn to the Truth of this affidavit before me Pet’ Calvert Surrogate present Tho’s Adderley N ??

This Will was proved at London with a Codicil the Twenty first day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty two before the Worshipful Peter Calvert Doctor of Laws surrogate of the Right Worshipful Sir Edward Simpson Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Agnes ffreman (Wife of the Reverend Ralph ffreman Doctor in Divinity) the Daughter of the deceased and one of the Executors named in the Will to whom the administration was Granted of all and singular the Good Chattels and Credits of the said deceased She having been first sworn Duly to administer (Power reserved of making the like Grant to William fforester Pulter fforester and Richard fforester the sons of the said deceased and the other Executors named in the said Will when they or either of them shall apply for the same
